Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan is a well-known cricket destination for many local, national and international teams. This stadium is owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board and operated by the Lahore Regional Cricket Association. The initial name of this stadium was “Lahore Stadium” which was renamed in the year 1974 as a tribute to the former Libyan Leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. The stadium also houses the headquarters of Pakistan Cricket Board.

Trivia

Gaddafi Stadium hosted the final match of the Cricket World Cup for the year of 1987 and 1996.

Significance

In the Test match of 1989, Pakistan played against India, making the highest team total of 699 at the stadium.
The highest individual score gained here is 329 by Inzamam-ul-Haq, scored in a match against New Zealand in 2002.
A fifth-wicket stand of 281 taken by Pakistan players Javed Miandad and Asif Iqbal against New Zealand in 1976 is counted as one of the most memorable moments in the history of Pakistan Cricket.
It is the largest stadium of Pakistan and the fifth largest stadium of the World regarding capacity (60,000, as of 2017).
