Frogner stadion, located in Oslo, Norway is a well-known stadium for conducting Ice skating and bandy events on artificial ice in winter and football events in summer. Opened in the year 1914, Frogner Stadium is owned by the City of Oslo and is closer to Frogner Park (a public park which is part of the Frogner Manor). Being one of the most popular ice skating venues, the stadium has witnessed many sports personalities making numerous world records.

Trivia

At the inaugural speed skating race in the year 1914, two world records of speed skating were set by the Norwegian speed skater Oscar Mathisen for the distances 500m and 1500m.

Significance

One of the world record set in this stadium for skating a 5,000 m distance in 8:37.2 sec is set by Nikolay Strunnikov in the year 1911.
The stadium has witnessed many of the female skaters setting world records such as Synnove in the year 1934, Laila Schou Nilsen in 1935, Verne Lesche in 1934 and Undis Blikken in the year 1937.
The stadium has statues of prominent figure skaters Sonja Heine and Oscar Mathisen as a tribute to their contribution in skating.
This stadium has also hosted the Norwegian Athletics Championship numerous times (in the years 1906, 1911, 1912, 1914, 1917, 1918, 1920, 1922 and 1924).
The stadium has served as the home ground for the second best team in Norway "Oslo Vikings American football" after undergoing a renovation in 2010.
The stadium hosted a historical match between the national teams of Norway and Belarus in the Bandy World Championship of 2013.
