Named after Fritz Walter (a player of Kaiserslautern Club and one of prominent the captains of the Germany Football Team), Fritz-Walter-Stadion is a well-known football stadium of Kaiserslautern, Germany. The stadium was opened in the year 1920. Being located near the Betzenberg hill, this stadium is also known as "Betze". The initial structure of the stadium consisted of a wooden stand, the ground containing a sandy pitch and a changing room for the players. But with time, the stadium has been developed in a way to provide various modern facilities for players as well as spectators. At present, the only tenant of this stadium is FC Kaiserslautern.

Trivia

The name of this stadium has changed many times. It was named as "Sportplatz Betzenberg" till 1920 after which it was called "Betzenberg stadion" till 1985.

Significance

The inaugural match played in this stadium was between F.C. Pfalz Ludwigshafen and Kaiserslautern. The former won the match by 2-0.
Famous architecture firm Folker Fiebiger designed the structure of Fritz-Walter-Stadion.
Fritz-Walter-Stadion Germany Kaiserslautern stadium also hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2006 for which it hosted four group matches and a "Round of 16" match between the teams of Italy and Australia.
The Fritz-Walter-Stadion has been renovated several times (in years 1926, 1932, 1953, 1972 and 2006).
Fritz-Walter-Stadion was one of the venues to host "2.Bundesliga" 2016-17 season.
