Fitzgerald Stadium in Ireland is a Gaelic Athletic Association stadium, named after the player Dick Fitzgerald. It is well-known as the home ground of the Kerry Senior Football team. This stadium was officially opened on 31st May 1936. The inauguration ceremony of the stadium was enthroned with the presence of main chief guests Dr. O’ Brien, the Bishop of Kerry and J. M. Harty who was the Archbishop of Cashel. This stadium is owned by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. It has various facilities for players as well as for the spectators such as medical staff, physiotherapy staff, a separate entry and exit areas of players through a tunnel.

Trivia

The Fitzgerald Stadium has been selected as one of the eight possible venues for Rugby World Cup 2023.
In the year 1950, this stadium hosted the Munster Hurling Final which was played between Tipperary and Cork.

Significance

Fitzgerald Stadium is also known for hosting concerts. Many well-known artists such as West life, Elton John, Counting Crows, Bryan Adams and The Corrs have given prolific performances at the stadium. “West life” played music here in the year 2008 on 22nd June and “Pussycat Dolls” on 18th July 2009.
The total cost spent on the construction of the stadium is over 3,000 Euros, and the renovation cost is over 4.8 million Euros, that makes it one of the most expensive stadiums around the world.
It was one of the venues that have hosted significant events of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 1937.
