Fernando Buesa Arena was initially known as “Pabellon Araba” (from 1991 to 2000).
Fernando Buesa Arena, located in Victoria Gasteiz, Spain is a well-known indoor sports arena, especially employed for basketball matches and also plays host to major music concerts. The arena serves as home for its main tenants Saski Baskonia, a much-publicised basketball team. It was opened in 1991 and is owned by “Diputacion Foral de Alava”. Along with basketball, the arena also plays host to Martial Arts and Boxing events.
Significance
- The most historic match in this arena was held on January 3rd, in 2016 where Spanish professional basketball team Real Madrid played against Laboral Kutxa. The match was witnessed by the record number of 15,544 spectators.
- The stadium witnessed the final match of Euro Cup in the year 2010.
- The arena also hosted the final match of Saporta Cup in 1996 where the home team Saski Baskonia won the game.
- Another historical match played here was held on 9th April 2012 between Real Madrid and Caja Laboral in the series of Liga ACB which was also the inaugural match after the renovation of Fernando Buesa Arena.
- In 2014, the arena played host to one of the biggest rhythmic gymnastics gala events Euskalgym.
