Fatorda Stadium is a well-known multi-purpose venue in Goa that hosts national as well as international sports events throughout the year. It predominantly hosts football and cricket events. Fatorda Stadium is operated and owned by the Sports Authority of Goa. It was opened in the year 1989 and was renovated again in the year 2014. It was updated according to the standards of FIFA and provides adequate seating capacity including VIP and VVIP area. It also has other facilities such as broadcast room, gymnasium, dope control rooms, medical rooms, TV studio and even corporate boxes.
Significance
- The opening and closing ceremonies of Lusofonia Games of 2014 was conducted here along with the Lusofonia football matches.
- The Fatorda Stadium has hosted the One Day International cricket match between Sri Lanka and India in the year 2007.
- The stadium witnessed its first ODI cricket match on 25th October 1989 which was between Sri Lanka and Australia.
- This is the only International Stadium in Goa and is located near Don Bosco Road.
- It has also witnessed the Indian Super league-2 final in the year 2015. The match was played between Chennai and Goa in which the former won infront of 18,477 spectators with a final score of 3-2.
- This stadium has served as the stamping ground for Goan football clubs such as Dempo S.C., Sporting Club de Goa, F.C. Goa, Salgaocar S.C. and Churchill Brothers S.C.
