Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez (abbreviated as Estadio Metropolitano) is a multi-use all-seater football stadium, situated in Barranquilla, Colombia. It is also known as El Metro. The construction work for the stadium commenced on 1975 and finally opened in 1986 after eleven years. An estimated amount of $8,965,470,000 (Colombian pesos) was spent on the construction of the stadium, and the chief architect involved in designing the stadium was José Francisco Ramos. The stadium has two LEDs for a better experience of live games. It has served as the home ground for the Junior F.C. and Barranquilla F.C. It is also the official stadium of the Colombia national football team.

Trivia

Initially, the stadium was named "Estadio Metropolitano", but the name was changed to Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in the year 1991 in honor of the Colombian football player Roberto Meléndez.
The Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez is reckoned as the largest stadium in the entirety of Colombia.

Significance

The stadium was inaugurated with a match, played between the Uruguay national team and Junior F.C.
A match between Argentina’s national football team and Junior F.C. took place in the year 1986.
It was selected as one of the venues that hosted the 1992 Colombian National Games.
The stadium was one of the venues that were selected to host the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup games. It also hosted the opening ceremony of the event.
The Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez hosted the opening ceremony and six Group A matches of the 2001 Copa América, held in between 11th-17th July 2001.
Colombia’s national team’s qualification matches for 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2006 FIFA World Cup were played in this venue.
