Estadio Malvinas Argentinas is a gigantic stadium, located in Mendoza, Argentina. The construction work to build the stadium started in 1976 and took two years to complete. It was finally opened to spectators in the year 1978. The full name of the stadium is Estadio Mundialista Malvinas Argentinas. It is the largest stadium in the entirety of Mendoza. The Estadio Malvinas Argentinas has been the home ground for the Argentine sporting club Godoy Cruz of the Primera División. It is owned and operated by the Provincial Government.

Trivia

The stadium was initially called the Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza, but it was renamed to "Estadio Malvinas Argentinas" after the 1982 Falklands War.

Significance

The stadium played host to three Group 4 matches and three Group B matches of the 1978 FIFA World Cup. These matches were held here on 3rd and 21st June of 1978.
The Estadio Malvinas Argentinas has been the venue for the significant matches of the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2001, the 2011 Copa America and the 2013 South American Youth Football Championship.
The inaugural match at the stadium was played on 14th May 1978. It was a match between a team of players representing Mendoza and the group of players representing San Rafael.
Los Pumas (Argentina national rugby team) has played four of the Rugby Championship matches at this stadium. Two of the matches against South Africa in 2012 and 2013 and two against Australia in 2014 and 2015.
The FIFA World Cup qualification match between the Argentina national football team and Uruguay national football team was held here in the year 2012.
