It has a unique facility of natural lighting. The roof of the Donbass Arena is tilted towards the south. This structure matches to natural landscape and leads to the natural lighting and airing of the pitch.
Donbass Arena is a stadium in Donetsk, Ukraine, located in the heart of the city, in the Lenin Comsomol Park. The stadium is predominantly used for football matches and has natural grass pitch. It was opened on 29th August 2009 three years of construction, built by Turkish company ENKA and designed by ArupSport. It has a seating capacity of 52,518. The stadium is also considered as one of the nightlife spots in Donetsk. Donbass Arena was constructed with the possibilities of daily use as well. Thus, the arena has three restaurants, a lounge bar, fan café, fast-food outlets, stores, fitness center and many other facilities for visitors.
Significance
- The stadium hosts the home games for FC Shakhtar Donetsk. Shakhtar played their first match at the stadium on 27th September 2009 in a Ukrainian Premier League 2009–10 and emerged winner over FC Obolon Kyiv by 4-0.
- The stadium witnessed its first international match on 18th November 2009 when Ukraine lost against Greece by 0-1 in the qualification round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
- The stadium was one of the venues to host significant matches of UEFA Euro 2012. It hosted group D stage matches, one quarter-final and one semi-final.
- On 22nd August 2014, the stadium hosted a small "Peace March" against the violence of the 2014 Pro-Russian conflict in Ukraine.
- The stadium also hosts corporate events, presentations, press conferences, and concerts.
- On the grand opening of the stadium, American singer Beyoncé performed at the venue as part of her "I Am... Tour". Several state officials also attended the show. The ceremony was awarded the "Event of the Year" at the Stadium Business Award on 18th June 2010, in Dublin.
