The Circuit of the Americas is a Grade 1 FIA motor racing facility, located in Elroy, southeastern to Austin City in Central Texas. It hosts the Formula One United States Grand Prix. It was opened on October 21, 2012. The layout of the circuit was conceived by promoter Tavo Hellmund with the assistance of famous German architect Hermann Tilke. The circuit has a capacity of 120,000 and comprises of 20 turns. The major features of the circuit include a Grand Plaza, Observational Tower, Austin360 Amphitheater and the main Grandstand.

Trivia

The circuit is counted amongst those Formula One venues that are run counter-clockwise, others being Marina Bay, Korea International Circuit, Yas Marina and Interlagos. Due to this, the circuit comprises of more left-handed turns than right-handed turns that create physical quandaries for the drivers.

Significance

The circuit has been playing host to the FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) Road Racing Championship as well as FIA World Endurance Championship since 2013.
It has also been hosting the IMSA (International Motor Sport Association) WeatherTech Sportscar Championship since 2013.
The circuit hosted the Australian V8 Supercars Series, American Le Mans Series and Rolex Sportscar Series in 2013.
The circuit has been hosting the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) Formula One Grand Prix since 2012.
German racing driver Sebastian Vettel made a lap record of 1:39.347 in this circuit in 2012 while driving for Red Bull Racing.
