The racecourse has its own steam railway station which has been the current southern terminus of the preserved Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

The famous Cheltenham Festival is held here in the month of March, featuring numerous Grade I races, including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Champion Hurdle, and World Hurdle.
One of the most employed race course in the United Kingdom is located at Prestbury Park in Gloucestershire named 'The Cheltenham Racecourse'. It is owned by Jockey Club Racecourses and hosts many famous horse racing events that are screened on Racing UK. It is situated at the beautiful scenic location in a natural amphitheatre right below the escarpment of the Cotswold Hills, at Cleeve Hill. It can accommodate as many as 67,500 spectators. The main racecourse is bifurcated in separate racetracks, running alongside each other. It also has a cross-country racecourse used for cross-country steeplechases.
Significance
- The racecourse has one of the largest auditoria in the South West of England named “The Centaur” which is used in multiple occasions and can accommodate 2,000 people for conferences, and 4,000 for concerts.
- The venue has the British Steeplechasing Hall of Fame that showcases the history of the sport from 1819.
- The racecourse is used as the venue for graduation ceremony and summer ball of the University of Gloucestershire.
- The annual Greenbelt festival and the Wychwood festival had been held here from 1999 to 2013.
- The Finesse Juvenile Novices' Hurdle (for horses of 4 years only) is held on this racecourse every year.
- The Coral Cup is held at the old course in Cheltenham every year over a distance of 4225 m for horses of the age four years and above.
- The December Gold Cup and the International Hurdle are international meets at the new course in Cheltenham that are held every year.
