Central Stadium is a multi-purpose arena located in Yekaterinburg which was built in 1957. This is the only venue of Asian Russia that has been selected to host the FIFA World Cup of 2018 and will be called Ekaterinburg Arena for the occasion. During the first year of its establishment, the arena came up as one of the most significant speed skating arenas of the world. The venue is equipped with numerous facilities for visitors as well as players and staff along with latest security systems.
Trivia
The main area of the stadium includes a football field with natural grass along with an athletic complex, having eight race tracks, long jump and triple jump areas, and shot put area that make the arena worth for multi-sports events.
Significance
The arena hosted the World Allround Speed Skating Championships for Women in 1959.
Numerous world records have been made here during the USSR Championships of the year 1958, 1962, 1964 and 1966.
The stadium underwent two major renovation phases from 2006 to 2011 and 2015 to 2017.
