Initially, in 1966, the stadium was named Carter Stadium. Later, the name of Albert E. Finley, a major contributor of the stadium was added to the stadium in September 1979.
Carter-Finley Stadium is a famous football stadium in Raleigh, United States. It is owned and operated by North Carolina State University. The construction of the stadium commenced in the year 1964 and was built with an estimated expenditure of $3.7 million (as of that era), and the stadium finally opened in 1966. It had undergone renovations and expansions for various times to provide better facilities to the spectators as well as players. At present, the stadium has luxury boxes, club seats, and media facilities with a seating capacity of around 57,583 viewers. It is the home of the NC State Wolfpack Football team.Â
Significance
- On 22nd July 1990, English singer and multi-instrumentalist Sir Paul McCartney performed here as part of "The Paul McCartney World Tour".
- Pink Floyd performed at the stadium as part of "The Division Bell Tour" on May 10, 1994.
- On 3rd October 2009, the stadium hosted an event where rock bands U2 and MUSE performed during their "360 Tour".
- The stadium hosted an exhibition match of the World Football Challenge on 28th July 2011, held between Italy's 'Serie A' club Juventus and Guadalajara Chivas of Mexico's Primera Division.
- On 1st July 2015, "The Rolling Stones" performed a concert as part of their "Zip Code Tour".
- On May 3, 2016, Beyoncé performed at the stadium as part of her "The Formation World Tour".
- The stadium has been hosting matches of the NC State Wolfpack Football team since its opening.
- In the 1950s, the University was looking to replace the on-campus Riddick Stadium, constructed in 1907 with concrete-and-wood and was not in the condition to conduct events anymore. Hence, it was decided to build a new stadium on the same site named as Carter–Finley Stadium.
