The Carrier Dome is a dome-shaped stadium, located on the campus of Syracuse University, New York. The stadium is home to the Syracuse Orange football, basketball, and lacrosse team. It was opened on 20th September 1980. It has a seating capacity of 49,250 spectators for American Football events and is considered as the largest dome-shaped stadium in the Northeastern United States.
Significance
- The stadium hosted the 1981 Big East Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.
- It has also played host to the 1988 and 1991 Division I NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Men's Lacrosse Championship.
- The east regional semi-finals and finals of the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament were conducted at the stadium seven times (in 1983, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2015).
- American Christian evangelist Billy Graham's Crusade took place in the stadium in 1989.
- Monster Jam hosted a show at the stadium in front of 40,000 fans on 10th March 2012.
- On 14th October 2014, an NBA preseason game was hosted between the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers.
- On 22nd November 2014, the stadium hosted an American Hockey League match between Syracuse Crunch and Utica Comets.
- Each October, the dome hosts the New York State Field Band Conference marching band Championships and each November, it hosts the New York High School Football State Championships..
- Apart from the games, the stadium has hosted several concerts of eminent musicians such as Prince, Bon Jovi, Genesis, The Rolling Stone.
