The Busch Stadium replaced the Busch Memorial Stadium, also known as Busch Stadium II.
The Busch Stadium is a baseball park, located in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the home ground of St.Louis Cardinals, a Major League Baseball (MLB) team. The stadium is often referred as the "New Busch Stadium" or "Busch Stadium III." The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 17th January 2004. The chief architects who made this stadium are Populous, HOK and Kennedy Associates/Architects Inc. An estimated amount of $365 million was spent on the construction of the stadium and in April 2006, it was finally opened for spectators. The stadium is owned and operated by the St. Louis Cardinals and is their home since 2006. The stadium was formerly called the Sportsman’s Park. Later, in 1953, it was named after Gussie Busch, the owner of the team.
Significance
- The stadium saw the United States Women's National Soccer Team defeating the New Zealand Women's National Soccer Team by 4-0 on 4th April 2015.
- The stadium hosted the exhibition match between Memphis Redbirds and Springfield Cardinals on 4th April 2006.
- The first official major league game was held in this stadium on 10th April 2006 as the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers by 6–4.
- The Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers in 5 games in 2006 and claimed their 10th World Series title.
- The stadium also witnessed the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on 14th July 2009.
- The memorable friendly match between Chelsea Football Club and Manchester City Football Club was held here on 23rd May 2013.
- The Cardinals hosted two postseason games against the Washington Nationals in the 2012 National League Division Series.
- The first football game, held in the Busch Stadium was the Southern Illinois University Carbondale vs. Southeast Missouri State match which was played here on 21st September 2013.
