The merchant, speed skater and sports organizer Martinus Lørdahl helped in facilitating the construction of the first bleachers that began in 1917 and completed in 1922. In his honor, one of the squares outside the stadium is named Martinus Lørdahl's Square.

The Bislett Stadium was built on the site of 19th-century brickworks, bought by the Oslo municipality in 1898. It was turned into a sports field in 1908.
Bislett Stadium is located in Oslo, Norway and is considered Norway’s most famous stadium. It has been the home ground for the Skeid Fotball team since 2007 and Lyn football team since 2014. It has also served as the home field for Valerenga Fotball from 1944 to 1999. The stadium opened in 1922 and is owned as well as operated by the Oslo Municipality. As an old stadium, it went through a renovation in 2004 and is now transformed into a modern stadium that meets the international requirements for field and track events. Other than athletics, speed skating, bandy, football, rugby has also been played here. The stadium has conducted many important games including the 1952 Winter Olympics, IAAF Golden League, Bislett Games and 1946 European Athletics Championship.
Significance
- It has also hosted figure skating and speed skating events of the 1952 Winter Olympic Games.
- The Bislett Games, an annual track and field event in the IAAF Golden League has been taking place at the stadium since 1965.
- The stadium hosted the World Speed Skating Championship for the first time in 1925. In 1940, Bislett became the main venue for speed skating in Oslo.
- In August 2012, the final match of rugby league Nordic Cup was held here in which Norway and Denmark pitted against each other.
- The stadium hosted the Norwegian Athletics Championships 18 times; in 1926–29, 1931–36, 1938–39, 1947, 1949, 1951–52, 1955 and 2006.
