The MTS Centre is an indoor sports stadium as well as an entertainment venue, situated at 300 Portage Avenue, Manitoba, Canada. The construction work to build the arena began on 16th April 2003, and an estimated amount of CA$133.5 million was spent on it. The construction took a years’ time and the stadium was finally opened to the spectators on 16th November 2004. The chief architects involved in the construction and designing were Sink Combs Dethlefs, Number TEN Architectural Group, and Smith Carter. The structure of the center was designed by the architecture firm Hammes Company. The MTS Centre has been the home of the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) since 2011 and the Manitoba Moose (AHL) since 2015.

Trivia

Bell MTS (a subsidiary of BCE Inc. which is a Canadian telecommunications company) owns the naming rights of the stadium. During the planning and construction stages, the MTS Centre was referred as the "True North Centre".
The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum has been established here in the year 1985. It has a distinguished area to give tribute to Olympic gold medalists.

Significance

The arena has witnessed the pre-tournament games of the 2005 World Junior Championship.
It was selected to host the Men's NORCECA Volleyball Championship in the year 2005.
The center also played host to the BDO Classic Canadian Open of Curling in the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
The arena hosted the AHL All-Star Classic game held on 1st February 2006.
The first match of the NHL preseason games at the arena was held on 17th September 2006 between Edmonton Oilers and Phoenix Coyotes. The former won the match by 5-0.
The 2007 IIHF Women's World Championship (Hockey). Canada won the championship for the ninth time.
In 2013, UFC 161 was hosted by the arena which was fought between Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson on 15th June.
The popular reality game show "The Amazing Race Canada 2" was held here in the year 2014.
