The Bahrain International Circuit comprises of the Grand Prix track, the Inner Track, the Outer Track, the Paddock Circuit, the Drag Strip and the Oval Track.
The Bahrain International Circuit is a well-known motorsport circuit, located in Sakhir, Bahrain. The race circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license. The construction of the stadium started in December 2002. An estimated amount of $150 million was spent on its construction. The chief architect who designed the stadium is Hermann Tilke. The stadium was finally opened for spectators on 17th March 2004. The track usually hosts events such as the GP2 Series and drag racing. The circuit also plays host to the annual Bahrain Grand Prix. The construction of the Bahrain International Circuit was initiated by the Crown Prince Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the President of the Bahrain Motor Federation.
Significance
- The circuit has witnessed the season opening of 2010 Formula One race. The formula one cars drove the 6.299 km circuit to celebrate Formula one's Diamond Jubilee.
- In 2014, the Bahrain International Circuit hosted it’s first Grand Prix under lights. It was a night race that celebrated the 10th year of the Formula One at that circuit.
- In the year 2007, the Bahrain International Circuit became the first circuit to be awarded the distinguished FIA Institute Centre of Excellence award.
- The Bahrain International Circuit played host to the 2009 Bahrain Grand Prix.
- The 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix was also held at the Bahrain International Circuit.
- The 2004 Bahrain Grand Prix was held at the Bahrain International Circuit. Although it seemed like the track wouldn’t be completed in time to host the event, it did host the event.
- The 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix was also held here.
- The Desert 400 has been held at the circuit in 2006. It is a race of Australian V8 Supercars.
