Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha is situated in Brasília, Federal District. It is also known as Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha Stadium. This multi-facility recreational center predominantly hosts football matches. The arena was opened on 10th March 1974 and was re-inaugurated on 18th May 2013 after being renovated as per FIFA standards. The total cost spent on the preparation was over $900 million although the budget initially allotted was just $300 million. The stadium is owned by Departments of Sports, Physical Education and Recreational of Distrito Federal.

Trivia

This is the second most expensive football stadium in the whole world as the first one is the Wembley Stadium.
The name of this stadium is a homage to football legend “Mané Garrincha” who won the World Cup of 1958 and 1962 for Brazil.

Significance

It is also the stadium that hosted the last concert of the legendary band “Mamonas Assassinas” of Brazil on 2nd March 1996.
The stadium recorded the highest attendance on 20th December 1998 in a match between the Brazilian football teams Gama and Londrina in "Serie B" final where the former won the match by 3-0.
The stadium was originally designed by the well-known architect Ícaro de Castro Mello.
The stadium hosted the final of the first edition of Brazilian Women's Football Cup on 8th December 2007 that was won by Mato Grosso do Sul/Saad.
Estadio Nacional de Brasilia was one of the venues to host the Summer Olympics and Campeonato Brasileiro "Série A" (Brazilian Championship A Series) in 2016.
