The substance was used for the first time at a professional level in Brazilian Championship, held in the year 2001.

Vanishing Spray (also termed as Vanishing Foam), is an aerosolized substance used by referees in a field, to provide a temporary foaming line marker when a free kick is taken. This has been specially designed to mark natural and artificial grass. The substance was invented by Heine Allemagne of Brazil under the name "Spuni" in 2000 which was patented in the year 2002. The content was used for the first time in an international event at FIFA World Cup, held in 2014. Before this, the spray has been used in various League matches in Canada, U.S. and South America.

Features

This substance helps in creating shared visibility for players, spectators, and referees.
The foam sprayed remains visible only for few minutes (varying from 2 to 5 minutes) and thus gets perished.
It helps in preventing any dispute regarding defensive wall location, thus ensuring fair play in the match.
With the help of vanishing spray, referees can create a clear demarcation of the spot where the ball should be placed and where the defensive wall is to be set, while taking a free kick.
