Ski goggles are just like coconut shell – tough outside and soft inside. They protect the delicate eyes from harsh weather conditions and provide safety. The goggles have various attributes starting from comfort to how they work.
Goggles are not only used to protect eyes but also to get clearer visibility and comfort. The manufacturers have made the Goggles in such a way that they provide the skiers a better experience in field.
Here are the details about the Parts of the Goggles –
Lens: The main reason behind manufacturing goggles was to protect the eyes with the help of lens. Most goggles have two lenses that are parted by a foam divider to keep an air gap between the layers. This feature was added to resist the lens from steaming up. All skiing lens have UV protection and don’t have optical distortion. They are usually made of polycarbonate or Trivex and have anti-fog and scratch coating.
Frame: The frame holds the lens firmly. It gives a definition and adds to the look of the goggles. Along with the design and look, they are also used to provide ventilation. They are designed in such a way that it fits properly on everyone’s face.
Padding: The layers of foam on the frame are known as padding. One or more layers are present in the goggle to comfort the skier. The padding fits perfectly over the face of the skier.
Strap: The strap is an elastic band that goes around the back of the head. Straps are present in the Goggles to hold the frame against the face. The material used in the straps is rubber. There are clips present in the strap for adjustment.
Frame Clip: The primary function of the clip is to adjust the strap while keeping the frame complete. The clips are easily bendable at the front so that the strap can be adjusted properly.
1) UV protection: Photokeratitis, commonly known as Snow Blindness, is a painful, temporary loss of vision caused due to overexposure to ultraviolet rays. Therefore, the goggles provide 100% protection against the harmful UVA & UVB rays and protect the eyes from the risk of snow blindness and any other eye diseases.
2) Less Glare: The most common problem faced by skiers is in terms of their visibility. Goggles with dark lens tints minimize reflected glare and ski on bright and sunny days without squinting or damaging the eyes.
3) More contrast: Ski goggles enhance the vision by providing more excellent contrast between objects and shadows. Different color tints improve contrast in different conditions.
4) Stay warm: These goggles protect the face, especially the eyes, against the extreme cold and prevent the ongoing mountain air.
5) Safety: Ski goggles protect the face and eyes from blunt objects or rocks during a crash or accident.
As per the International Skiing Federation, Ski goggles protect the eyes against rays and weather with optical lenses. The primary objective of the goggles is to guarantee contrast-free visibility irrespective of the weather conditions. Therefore, using ski goggles is highly recommended.
