Ski goggles are used to protect the eyes of the skier. While skiing, these goggles save eyes from wind, snow, and harmful UV rays. The goggles have various attributes starting from comfort to how they work.
Goggles are not used to protect eyes but to get clearer visibility and provide comfort. To achieve the same, the manufacturers have added many components to the goggles. Here are the details about the parts of the goggles –
Lens : The reason behind manufacturing goggles was to put the lens in front of the eyes. Most of the goggles have two lenses parted by a foam divider to keep an air gap between the layers. This feature was added to resist the lens from steaming up. The lenses are made of polycarbonate or Trivex. All skiing lens have UV protection and doesn’t have optical distortion. They also have anti-fog and scratch coating.
Frame : The frame holds the lens firmly. It gives a definition and adds to the look of the goggles. Along with the design and look, they are also used to provide ventilation. They are designed in a way, so that fits properly on everyone’s face.
Padding : The layers of foam on the frame is known as padding. There are one or more layers present in the goggle to provide comfort to the skier. The face of the athlete sits on the padding and takes its shape.
Strap : The strap is the band that goes around the back of the head. Straps do not vary much are present to hold the frame against the face. The material used in the straps is rubbery. There are clips present in the strap for adjustment.
Frame Clip : The primary function of the clip is to adjust the strap while keeping the frame intact. The clips are easily bendable at the front so that the strap can be adjusted appropriately.
As per the International Skiing Federation, Ski goggles protect the eyes against rays and weather with optical lenses. The primary objective of the goggles is to guarantee contrast-free visibility irrespective of the weather conditions. Therefore, using ski goggles is highly recommended. The federation prohibits the reshaping of ski goggles to obtain aerodynamic features.
