In 2013 Winter University Games, the event attracted a record 2,668 competitors to the Italian Alps. In the 2019 Winter University Games, 3000 athletes from 58 countries competed in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

The World University Games; formerly known as Universiade, is an international multi-sport event organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) for university athletes. The World University Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world apart from the Olympic Games, which is divided into two events; Summer World University Games and Winter World University Games.

The Winter World University Games is an 11-day competitive sports program incorporating education and cultural aspects. The Winter World University Games include nine mandatory sports and up to three optional sports selected by the host country.

Significance / Memorable Moments

Embracing the FISU’s motto “Excellence in Mind and Body”, Winter World University Games has incorporated an educational aspect into sports competitions that allow university student-athletes to celebrate high sports performance while continuing their education with the local host city.
The sports event is a celebration of international university sports and culture. Competing with several thousand student-athletes in each edition of the event, it is the largest multi-sport winter competition in the world.
