The United States Open Championship is an international golf competition, held in the United States, every year for men. It is commonly referred as the U.S. Open as well. The competition was established in the year 1895 and conducted for the first time at the Newport Country Club in Newport, United States. Horace Rawlins of England won the first championship. The U.S. Open is amongst the four major Golf Championships and is conducted by United States Golf Association. Initially, the tournament was dominated by the British players, but after 1911, players from the United States grabbed the opportunity to come into the limelight. The competition is open for both professional as well as amateurs.
