In 1950, french road racing cyclist Jean Robic won the title of the world cyclocross champion, becoming the only cyclist who had won the title after winning the Tour de France.

The UCI Cyclo-cross World Championship is an international level World Championship in Cyclo-cross that has replaced the old Critérium International de Cyclo-cross. The Championship is usually held at the end of January or the beginning of February. Earlier, the sport was held only in Europe, but in 2013, the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championship was hosted by Louisville, Kentucky, United States and at present, it is held all-around the world, every year. The competition has various categories:

Competition Format

Cyclo-cross is a kind of bicycle racing that usually takes place between October and February.
The competition consists of multiple short laps of grass, hills, pavements, wooded trails and other such obstacles.
The rider is required to dismount, carry the bicycle around the obstacle and mount and ride again. The time span generally stretches over 30 minutes to 1 hour. The sport is prevalent in Netherlands, Belgium and France.
The bicycles are required to be durable yet lightweight, so that the rider can carry it on his/her shoulders and around the obstacles with ease.
This sport focuses mainly on the rider’s endurance, stamina, bike-handling capability and skills.
