The first Super 8 tournament was held on 4th June 2014, at the Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Super 8 is an international level boxing tournament, held in New Zealand, every year. It was founded by John McRae, the owner of VSLive (formerly known as Sky Arena), in the year 2014. The New Zealand National Boxing Federation is the commissioner of the event. NZ Boxer, Rockstar energy drink, and Mahindra are the sponsors of this event.

Competition Format

The Super 8 is a last-man-standing tournament, held in one night.
Seven bouts are held, each having three rounds of 3 minutes.
If at the end of three rounds, it is still declared a draw, an extra round is conducted to decide the winner.
As for the selections and match-ups, random names are drawn from a hat.
The winner is decided by knock-out or judges poll.
Violation of the rules may force the referee to deduct points or disqualify a boxer.
