The competition was formerly known by the names 'Shell Shield' and the 'Carib Beer Cup'.

The Regional Four Day Competition is a first-class cricket competition, held in the West Indies. The tournament is contested between seven Caribbean teams. Sometimes, touring sides from other countries are included in the tournament as well. The first tournament was held in 1965. It was won by the Barbados cricket team. During the 1987-1988 season, it was called the Red Stripe Cup. It was renamed as the President's Cup from 1997-98 and have been renamed many times due to different sponsors. Since 2009, it has been termed as the Regional Four Day Competition.
