The Parapan American Games is an international multi-sport competition, held after a gap of every four years in the year following the Pan American Games. The event is meant for athletes having physical disabilities and is organized by the American Paralympic Committee (APC). Mexico City hosted the first edition of such Games in the year 1999. Another version of the Parapan American Games is organized for young athletes aged between 13 to 20 years. The first edition was organized in the year 2005 by Venezuela which saw participation by athletes from 10 nations. The Parapan American Games has become a regional qualifying event for the Paralympic Games.
