The Islamic Solidarity Games is an Olympic-style regional multi-sport event, held after a gap of every four years in the year following the Olympic Games. The events are organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), which is also responsible for the control and direction of such events. Saudi Arabia hosted the first event in the year 2005 where athletes from around 50 nations participated.
Women's Islamic Games
Islamic Federation of Women's Sport (IFWS) also conducts a special International event for female Muslim athletes from all around the world. The first event was organized in 1993. Since then, it has been conducted four times (as of 2017). The main aim of these Games is to inspire Muslim women to participate in world level sports competitions. Woman athletes from around 25 nations participate in these Games.
