ISF is an international sport governing body for school sports, recognized by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) and is responsible for organizing sporting events for school athletes aged between 13-18 years.
The Gymnasiade or World Gymnasiade is an international multi-sport competition, organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF). It is considered as the largest sporting event amongst numerous sports events, organized by ISF for young school athletes. Till 1990, the event used to be organized in every two years. The first edition of the Gymnasiade games was organized in the year 1974 in Wiesbaden, West Germany.
Competition Format
Aligned with the philosophy of the International Sports Federation, only pupils aged between 13-18 are eligible to compete in the event.
Athletes from all the member nations are eligible to participate in the event.
All participants must be nominated by the country’s official organization, responsible for school sports.
Total 34 athletics events are held following the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
