Since 2013, the Australian Masters is the only round-robin Grandmaster chess tournament in the entirety of Australia.

The Australasian Masters is an invitational chess tournament, held in Melbourne, Australia, every year. It was first held in the year 1987 and won by Darryl Keith Johansen of Australia. The tournament was initially known as the Australian Masters. A major sponsor of the event is the company Hallsten (owner Eddy Levi). The Australasian Masters is an invitational, round-robin tournament (each player or contestant faces each other in turns) that normally allows ten players.

Competition Format

The tournament is conducted under the strict criteria of FIDE.
The Australasian Women’s Masters conduct games that offer Grand Master (GM) Norm to players. The norm is given for a high-level performance by a player in a chess tournament, and several such norms are required to get the title of Grandmaster from FIDE.
Ten players participate in the tournament. Each player faces the other nine players in a round-robin system of the game. For each of the game points are accumulated according to FIDE’s criteria, and at the end, the winner is determined based on the final tally.
