This tournament helps badminton players to earn ranking points, being part of the international circuit of badminton tournaments.

The Tata Open India International Challenge is a badminton tournament of international level, held every year in India. It was first held in the year 2008, initiated by the Tata Group. The first two editions of this badminton tournament were held nationally, but from the year 2010, it became an international tournament. This tournament is organized under the authority of MBA (Maharashtra Badminton Association) and Badminton Association of India. This international badminton tournament has been sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Asia Confederations (BAC). The tournament hosts games for both men and women. The categories are:-

Men’s singles
Women’s singles
Men’s doubles
Women’s doubles
Mixed doubles

Competition Format

Each player of each category goes through three stages of the match: Quarterfinal, Semifinal and final.
The tournament follows rally point system.
It follows best of five games of eleven points each.
When it comes to the point of 10-all, the player or the pair of players (in the case of doubles or mixed doubles) wins the game when a lead of two points is achieved or the first player or pair of players to score 15 when the score of the game is 14-all.
The players are allowed to change ends at the end of the first game.
