Competition Format

• The tournament is conducted for both men and women in separate divisions.
• Although the overall nature of the tournament has undergone a few changes in the past years but the basic round-robin format remains the same. In this format, each team has to play against others.
• After the round-robin series, the four sides that are at the top, proceed to the next round which is called the Super-4 stage. However, it is absent in Women’s division.
• In case of the men’s division, the sides that win the two semifinals play in the finals.
• The losing sides play against each other for the bronze medal.
• In the women’s division, the sides that are ranked fourth and fifth, played against each other and the winner gains entry to the preliminary final rounds.
• The top two sides compete against each other and the winner goes to the final. The loser gets to play in the preliminary final. The side that wins the preliminary finals gets the right to occupy the last spot left in the World Cup final.
