 
                 The origin of the competition dates back to 1987 when for the first time the Men’s Junior Asia Cup was introduced by the Asian Hockey Federation.

The Hockey Junior Asia Cup or simply the Junior Asia Cup is an Asian field hockey tournament for both men and women, organized by the Asian Hockey Federation (ASHF). The members which founded the Asian Hockey Federation include India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Amongst the 31 members of the organization, only eight nations get the opportunity to compete for the Junior Asia Cup. All the players must be under the age of 21, to be able to participate in the championship.
 The format of the competition is simple and resembles most other field hockey championships. A total of eight teams participate. The teams are divided into two group of four teams each.
