India and Pakistan are the joint defending champions of the 2018 Men's Asian Champions Trophy.

The Asian Champions Trophy is an event that includes the Men's Asian Champions Trophy and the Women's Asian Champions Trophy. The men's event is held annually, while the women's event is held biennially by the Asian Hockey Federation. It features Asia's top six field hockey teams in the men's format and the best five teams in the women's format.

India and Pakistan are the most successful teams in the Men's Asian Hockey Champions Trophy that won the tournament three times each.
The women's tournament has been won by 3 different teams, where South Korea is the defending champion, winning most number of titles (3). Both India and Japan have won the tournament one-time each.
