FAI is the global governing body for air sports founded on 14th October 1905. The federation aims for the development and promotion of aeronautical and astronautical activities and maintaining world records of respective air sports. The federation is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has more than 100 member nations. It overlooks all the aspects of the aeronautical and astronautical sports along with the establishment of regulations for all sports, promoting skills, proficiency and safety.
On 10th June 1905, the Vice President of the Aero Club of France Count Henri de la Vaulx, President of Aero Club of Belgium Fernand Jacobs and German Airship League's Major Moedebeck proposed the idea of founding the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale to the Olympic Congress of Brussels. The proposal was admitted with a conclusion to create an association in each country for the development and regulation of air sports. On 12th October, an international aeronautical conference was held in Paris that led to the foundation of Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) on 14th October 1905.
