The Sports Authority of India announced on Thursday that para-athletics coach 'Nawal Singh' had been tested positive for the coronavirus. Singh is part of the national training camp currently being held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
SAI released a statement, "Singh is recovering and is in-home quarantine at present. All athletes training under him are in quarantine at their residential facility in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium hostel".
Recently, there have been a lot of positive cases among athletes in various sports.
Boxer Duryodhan Singh Negi, who was under training at Patiala's Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) on Sunday, tested positive for the coronavirus. Negi is now asymptomatic and has been transferred to Columbia Asian Hospital as a precautionary measure.
On November 25, SAI announced that the shooter Divyansh Singh Panwar, who has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, had tested positive for the coronavirus, and that he was also asymptomatic and was isolated at home.
Also, wrestler Narsingh Yadav (74 kg freestyle), Gurpreet Singh (77 kg Greco-Roman) and physiotherapist Vishal Rai tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to SAI, "All three are asymptomatic and have been moved to Sonepat's Bhagwan Mahavir Das Hospital as a precautionary measure".
