Australian Open (Golf) cancelled for the first time in 75 years due to COVID-19

With the increasing lethality of COVID-19, all the three events - the Australian PGA Championships, Australian Open and Women’s Australian Open have been cancelled. Chief Executive of PGA Gavin Kirkman, ALPG chief executive Karen Lunn and Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland confirmed the news on Friday. This heartbreaking news for the fans and players has been decided after months of consultation with the relevant authorities and sanctioning partners. The men’s Open tournaments have been cancelled after 75 years as were organized smoothly since 1945. The PGA of Australia has shared the news on their Twitter handle as they regret the call but it is necessary for the safety of humankind.
