The playing court is a 27 m long and 12 m wide rectangle, consisting a playing area with two goal-post areas. The court's surface must have at least 40 cm deep layer of sand.
The longer boundary lines are called sidelines, and the shorter ones are called the goal area-lines. There is a safety zone with a width of about 3 m surrounding the playing court.
The tournaments are organized for male, female and mixed teams. A team may consist of a maximum 8 players amongst which at least 6 must be present at the beginning of the game.
A goal is placed in the centre of each goal-line, firmly anchored in the sand with an interior width of 3 m and height of 2 m.
The game consists of two 10-minutes halves that are scored separately. The half time break is for 5 minutes.
If the score is even at the end of half of the game, the 'Golden Goal' is played.
Each team has the right to receive a 1-minute team time out in each half of the regular playing time.
If the referees determine that the timekeeper has given the final signal too early, they must keep the players on the court and play for the remaining time.
The game is played with a round, non-slippery rubber ball. The men's ball weighs 350 to 370 g and has a circumference of 54 to 56 cm.
All players are required to play barefoot. However, socks or sports bandages are allowed.
In case of an injury, referees may permit two of the persons "entitled to participate" to enter the court during a time-out, to assist the injured player.
