Discus Throw is a track and field (throwing) athletics event in which athletes throw a heavy disc known as a "discus" as far as possible to win the competition. The discus weighs around 1kg for women and 2kg for men with the diameter of 18cm for women and 22cm for men. As demonstrated by the 5th century B.C. Myron statue- Discobolus, it is supposed to be an ancient sport. The sport was a part of the ancient Greek pentathlon competitions in 708BC. Discus throw is a part of modern Olympics since the first Games in 1896 for men and since 1928 for women.
