The canoe-kayak athletes' clothing are ergonomically cut which allows maximum range of movement to the paddler without rubbing, which is critical while paddling.
Thermal base layers, breathable paddle jackets and trousers are all worn by the paddlers while playing the sport.
The boats are used in canoe marathon are the canoe and the kayak. The difference between the two is of the size of the boat, the type of paddle used i.e. single or double paddled and the posture of the athlete.
Both the boats come in various sizes to accomodate large or lesser no. of paddlers with specifications as under:-
Canoe- Canoes are wide, heavy and are no rudder boats. The competitors rest on one knee in the open boat and use a single-bladed paddle with grips on the top of the handle. The canoe boats have two classes i.e. C1 and C2. THe C1 class measures 5.5m in length and 75cm in width, and weighs around 16-18kgs, whereas the C2 measures 6.5m by 75cm and weighs around 20-22kgs.
Kayak- Compared to the canoes, kayaks are lighter, narrow and have a small area for the kayakers to sit with their legs stretched and steer with a foot-controlled rudder situated in the cockpit. The kayakers use a double bladed paddle with a curved blade and have a grip located in the middle of the handle of the paddle. The kayaks have K1, K2 and K4 class, the K1 measures 5.2m by 51cm and weighs around 12-14kgs. The K2 class has a length and width of 6.5m and 55cm, respectively and weighs approx 18-20kgs, whereas the K4 class is 11m long and 60cm wide. It weighs around 30kgs.
