FIB is the global governing body that overlooks and manages Bandy and its respective events at various international stages. It works for the development of the sport and its variants along with the collaboration of its 27 member nations. The federation has declared itself as the "independent autonomic main sports organisation" that primarily governs bandy activities all over the world. The Bandy Rules and Referee Committee overlooks the rules of the games.
FIB was founded on 12th February 1955 by the collaboration of four countries: Norway, USSR, Finland and Sweden during the congress in Stockholm. Formerly, it was known as the International Bandy Federation, but it changed to "Federation of International Bandy" in 2001. In 2004, the federation was entirely accepted by the IOC.
