In 2003, the arena was renamed as Margaret Court Arena in honor of Australia's prominent tennis player Margaret Smith Court.
The arena is the third largest venue at the Australian Open tournament in 2015 according to capacity (7,500), the first two being the Rod Laver Arena and the Hisense Arena.
The Melbourne Park Show Court is a multi-purpose sports venue, located in Melbourne, Victoria. It predominantly hosts tennis events. It was opened in 1988 with a name "Show Court One" and has a capacity of 7,500 spectators. The venue is a part of the National Tennis Center at Melbourne Park. The construction work to build the court commenced in 1987 and the arena finally opened its gate the following year to host tennis events. The structure was specifically designed by Populous (HOK Sport) and NH Architecture firms. It underwent a major renovation in 2014 that also included the expansion of the arena. The arena has been serving as home to the Super netball teams Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood Magpies Netball since 2015 and 2017,respectively.
The arena has hosted several musical concerts featuring top-notch artists such as Cloud Control, The Black Keys, Delta Goodrem, Hilltop Hoods, Selena Gomes, Imagine Dragons and many more.
The arena hosted the Australian Open every year since 1988.
It can also be used for conducting basketball and netball events since 2014 after a significant renovation.
The arena was awarded the Public Architecture Award in 2015 by the Australian Institute of Architecture.
The Australian National Netball Team also uses the arena for their practices matches. They have also conducted a few Test matches here.
