The ICC Intercontinental Cup is an international tournament, organized by International Cricket Council as a part of its development program and aims at giving a chance to its associates to play first-class cricket matches. This is played by countries that do not have Test status. There are four regional groups – Africa, Asia, Europe, and America and East Asia-Pacific. Each of the sides plays a four-day match against every other side in their group. The winners of each group move forward to the semi-finals. The number of teams participating usually varies. The match was first devised as a 12-team tournament, played in a regional structure.
